The tale began in 1994 when brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, both ex-firefighters, opened their first location in Jacksonville, Florida. Drawing from their years in the firehouse, they created a welcoming spot that dishes up hearty subs amid red walls, fire gear, and a wall of hot sauce, using only premium meats and cheeses.

Right from the start they stressed fresh, high-quality ingredients and friendly, no-rush service. That simple commitment helped the little neighborhood shop grow into a cherished chain with locations across the country. Beating drums of the train, the chain’s signature steaming process locks in moisture, making each sandwich smokier and more satisfying.

Guests keep coming back for standouts such as the Hook & Ladder®-stacked with smoked turkey and Virginia honey ham-and for a broad lineup of other sandwiches, crisp salads, and kettle-cooked sides.

Today Firehouse Subs feeds millions of guests yearly and has more than 1,200 shops spread across the United States and beyond. Yet the companys mission runs deeper than serving hearty food. Back in 2005 they started the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, a group that has given thousands of pieces of lifesaving gear to first responders while proving how serious they are about backing local communities and keeping people safe.
